Apparently it is widely believed that the Hamburger originated in Hamburg (hence the name), the invention of Otto Kuase who used to serve butter fried patties topped with a fried egg to sailors. There are plenty of other claims to the first Hamburger, but we like this one, and so we thought we’d take a break from the wurst and give a burger a go in the country where it was (allegedly) invented. So where better when in Berlin than Burgermeister, the go-to place in Berlin for burgers, which frequently features on best eats lists for the city. When I arrived I was amused to see the innately hip Berlin has not missed out on the trend of turning public loos into eating establishments. (Maybe it even started here? Who knows!) Continue reading
Last Saturday (10 Sept ’16) we attended Slider Decider at Broadgate Circle, London, and cor we had an amazing day! Despite the rain, the 16 chefs in attendance cooked for the crowds, powered through and did a brilliant job.
We too put the ‘work’ in and sampled 14 out of the 16 sliders on offer. If you want to know what we thought, who the winners were, who we voted for and where you can see more of these chefs then keep on reading!
12 noon until 17:00 – Broadgate Circle, London – Free Entry
This Saturday London is in for a real treat! The weekend following Meatopia (which somehow as major meat fans we are yet to attend) and not long after National Burger Day, we’re being spoilt with Slider Decider. And yes, Fork My Piehole will be in attendance to bring you delicious slider news and stuff our pieholes.
The Free Ranger – London Philly Cheesesteak – £6 – London and Chelmsford
Hark at thee, hungry readers and food porn enthusiasts. I am here to tell you a cheesy meaty tale, from the valleys (or high street) of Chelmsford, Essex. Our story began one uneventful Friday lunchtime when a lost soul was wandering through this pity-city – I say this because the Queen deemed Chelmsford a city but let’s be real here…this is a place for realness. Anyway, I digress! I am here to tell you about some joy that was brought to me on a day of boredom and darkness.
Flat Iron Shoreditch – Flat Iron Burger – £10
Last week I went to Flat Iron as a surprise. Now when I say surprise, I don’t mean 20 people got me there in a blindfold to literally shout “SURPRISE!”, but more some original plans didn’t work out and Flat Iron (as a reliable and delicious friend) was there to comfort us in our time of need.
Usually when I go to Flat Iron I have purpose. And that purpose is steak. Delicious delicious steak. We haven’t done a Flat Iron post since one of our first – CLICK HERE TO READ IT– and need to do another as that was from the first visit EVER, so I took the tasty opportunity to try something new. Something I had heard about from friends and recently gained some knowledge about thanks to Jordan, the Flat Iron butcher based at the Covent Garden branch (Insta/twitter @butcherling). The new half secret information passed on to me was that this burger contains brisket meat. Which is special and I don’t think many burgers would contain this sort of beef. It lit a burger fuelled flame inside of me. Mm…brisket.
