Spicer + Cole – Queen Square, Bristol

Ooo arr! We’re in the West Country, Bristol to be specific, and it’s BRUNCHTIME following a 30th birthday party. A little dozy and worse for wear, we are wandering Bristol without aim….luckily, we’ve found a brunch spot not far away from the city centre and our hotel. Hooray! It looks safe and there are spare seats, so we step inside.

The menu looked pretty interesting, offering the standard kind of things you’d expect to see in a brunch spot, but my bruncheon of choice was the Harissa Bap. Specifically, the menu read “Bacon house harissa + aioli bap with a poached egg” – interesting. Bit different to my go-to of eggs benedict or something avocado-looking. Continue reading

Teapigs – Matcha Drinks

Just before Christmas I arrived home to find one of those “sorry we missed you” cards from Royal Mail on my mat. Assuming this was a festive gift from a mysterious admirer (obviously). I got up early the following day to get to the post office before work on the last Friday before Christmas. After queuing up I had to convince the lady to give me the package as the name on my ID (unsurprisingly) does not read “Fork My Piehole”  (she was giving me a knowing smirk during this exchange but I decided not to ruin the illusion by telling her that it is the name of our blog, not whatever less savoury thing she had in mind). Getting Dirty at *NEW* Dirty Bones, Shoreditch

Dirty Bones. You have been on my radar for a while but always seem to have wait lists or are booked up when I try and step through your door. I guess this is the price I pay when I try to pop in to popular places! I saw your Shoreditch opening and jumped at the chance to go!

I tried to book the first week of their soft opening just after it was announced (I needed to get there, STAT) but it was already jammed! So I settled for the second week and I was really not disappointed.

La ChiVa – Freeze Dried Fruit Snacks

Today we’re trying dried fruit snack packs from La ChiVa! – ‘Columbia’s second favourite export’

These are a healthy freeze dried fruit snack which you can eat on their own, sprinkle on your cereal or yogurt or possibly do other things I haven’t yet considered! I opted to try them on their own as ‘fruity crisps’ – and also because I had no cereal or yogurt in the cupboards.

Naturelly – Jelly Juice

We visited the Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2016 and stumbled upon Naturelly. These guys and gals make a jelly juice snack aimed at kids aged 2+ and made from real fruit juice and natural gelatine-free jelly with no added sugar.  The point is to have something for kids to have as a snack which is good for them and a bit different – not a snack and not a drink, a delicious in-between!

This appealed to me because although I am a 20-something *cough cough* I don’t think you ever really lose the love for a bit of jelly, especially when it’s in a squeezy packet. So I gave it a crack (and the fella on the Naturelly stand was also a jelly fan so there was no shaming for me going for a snack aimed at toddlers and over).

Back to Basque at Eneko – One Aldwych, London

Basque Food – Eneko at One Aldwych – £65 a head for 3 courses 1 drink & service

Basque food seems to be the flavour of the month as this was the first of three new Basque places we tried this August! Eneko at One Aldwych is the new offering from three Michelin starred chef Eneko Axta. Eneko officially opens Today, but we went along to the soft opening a couple of weeks ago to check the place out.  Continue reading
