Stakehaus at Kerb – The Gherkin, London

‘The Green One’ Steak and courgette fries- £8 – Stakehaus @ Kerb at the Gherkin

Thursday lunchtime we popped over to Kerb at the Gherkin to cheer up a pretty dismal chilly feeling Thursday. The traders at this site vary from week to week so I had looked beforehand and knew I was heading straight to Stakehaus.  I’d meant to visit them at another street food venue but I think the advertising was wrong so grabbed this opportunity by the…er..cow horns.

Bleecker Street – Spitalfields, London – London’s Best Burger!

Bleecker Van Love <3

Bleecker Van Love ❤

Yesterday we had the absolute joy of meeting Zan Kaufman the owner and creator of Bleecker Burger, one of our hands down favourite places to eat in London. Not only was she nice enough to pose for a picture with us she also invited us into the Bleecker Bus – the dream! After the treat of getting up close and personal with the lady behind the Bleecker we realised what a travesty it was that we have never actually written about our favourite burger!

Last Saturday (10 Sept ’16) we attended Slider Decider at Broadgate Circle, London, and cor we had an amazing day! Despite the rain, the 16 chefs in attendance cooked for the crowds, powered through and did a brilliant job.

We too put the ‘work’ in and sampled 14 out of the 16 sliders on offer. If you want to know what we thought, who the winners were, who we voted for and where you can see more of these chefs then keep on reading!

Zooteek #BasqueInSummer Pop Up – Regent’s Canal, Bow

Yesterday morning we went for a stroll down by the canal and stumbled upon a good smelling barge (for reference we were by the Palm Tree pub in Mile End). They were just setting up yesterday and I had a day of wedding dress shopping to go and do (squeak to good friends getting married!) so I couldn’t indulge then. But we asked what was going on and made a note to go back today to sample their #basqueinsummer cuisine as they were only around for the bank holiday weekend. I am so glad we did!

It had been chucking it down about half an hour before we ventured out for lunch and so I wondered how they would be doing and hoping business was still booming for them. And it was! Hooray! They had some great music on to create more of an atmosphere for their customers (it worked, I had a jig) and some seats and tables laid out on the grass.

The Free Ranger, London Philly Cheesesteak – Chelmsford, Essex

The Free Ranger – London Philly Cheesesteak – £6 – London and Chelmsford

Hark at thee, hungry readers and food porn enthusiasts.  I am here to tell you a cheesy meaty tale, from the valleys (or high street) of Chelmsford, Essex.  Our story began one uneventful Friday lunchtime when a lost soul was wandering through this pity-city – I say this because the Queen deemed Chelmsford a city but let’s be real here…this is a place for realness. Anyway, I digress! I am here to tell you about some joy that was brought to me on a day of boredom and darkness.

KERB ‘The Favourites’ Part 1- Camden, London

KERB Camden – Street Food – £ varies – mostly under £10

Last week I was lucky enough to get invited to the preview night of the new KERB food market at Camden Lock by A Geordie Lost In London. This food market has been here for a while but it’s been taken over and re-vamped by the KERB guys who already run street food markets at Kings Cross, the Gherkin and Canary Wharf.

Camden is the new flagship of the KERB brand as the first market which will be open 7 days a week, and has a huge 35 traders as well as a bar which specialises in Negronis (turns out I don’t love Negronis but there are plenty of other options including craft beers). It’s a great site, the stalls surround an offshoot from the canal which houses a couple of sleepy canal boats, so you get a nice feeling of chilling out by the water while you chow down.

BBQ Lab/Thunderbird – The only wing you’ll ever need – London

BBQ Lab – Chipuffalo Wings – £ the more you order the less they cost so buy them all

I don’t think we could do this blog without writing about BBQ Lab. These guys have been a favourite of Stef and I for a while now and let me tell you for why…

Anyone who knows me knows that I like chicken. Scrap that I bloody LOVE chicken. One of my proudest moments as an Auntie so far is when I saw my baby niece using a chicken bone as a teething ring. My mother tells me I did the same thing as a baby. Must be genetic, what can I say?

Now since I have been chowing down on chicken since before I could walk, and since my favourite part of the chicken is the wing, I think I’m pretty well qualified to tell you about a good wing when I find one. Trust me, I have eaten a LOT of wings.
