This week we see Last Days of Shoreditch Riviera arrive back in the heart of East London, in the crevis where Old Street and Great Eastern Street meet, with a sensational summer programme of beats, bars and beach life. If you feel so inclined, you can relax to the sounds of XOYO DJs who will take the Saturday daytime residency each week, expect cocktails, an urban beach, craft beer bars alongside mouthwatering street food as well as a pop up restaurant and label takeovers.
Cajun Catfish burger/ sandwich – £6
I was going to have boring lunch today. Something standard. But then I realised it was a Thursday. Kerb is at the Gherkin on a Thursday. I did a little food #tbt, looking back on my photos from Kerb at the Gherkin a few weeks ago…and that was it. My boring plan was ruined. I knew I had to go again at lunch and from browsing the vendors available (the line up changes every week) I knew who I’d be heading to. But I didn’t expect to pick the dish I picked…
‘The Green One’ Steak and courgette fries- £8 – Stakehaus @ Kerb at the Gherkin
Thursday lunchtime we popped over to Kerb at the Gherkin to cheer up a pretty dismal chilly feeling Thursday. The traders at this site vary from week to week so I had looked beforehand and knew I was heading straight to Stakehaus. I’d meant to visit them at another street food venue but I think the advertising was wrong so grabbed this opportunity by the…er..cow horns.
Yesterday we had the absolute joy of meeting Zan Kaufman the owner and creator of Bleecker Burger, one of our hands down favourite places to eat in London. Not only was she nice enough to pose for a picture with us she also invited us into the Bleecker Bus – the dream! After the treat of getting up close and personal with the lady behind the Bleecker we realised what a travesty it was that we have never actually written about our favourite burger!
Last Saturday (10 Sept ’16) we attended Slider Decider at Broadgate Circle, London, and cor we had an amazing day! Despite the rain, the 16 chefs in attendance cooked for the crowds, powered through and did a brilliant job.
We too put the ‘work’ in and sampled 14 out of the 16 sliders on offer. If you want to know what we thought, who the winners were, who we voted for and where you can see more of these chefs then keep on reading!
12 noon until 17:00 – Broadgate Circle, London – Free Entry
This Saturday London is in for a real treat! The weekend following Meatopia (which somehow as major meat fans we are yet to attend) and not long after National Burger Day, we’re being spoilt with Slider Decider. And yes, Fork My Piehole will be in attendance to bring you delicious slider news and stuff our pieholes.
This post is a bit overdue as I’ve been off exploring the wonderful world that is Scotland, but better late than never hey! Here are a few of my other favourites from KERB Camden, in no particular order..
Yesterday morning we went for a stroll down by the canal and stumbled upon a good smelling barge (for reference we were by the Palm Tree pub in Mile End). They were just setting up yesterday and I had a day of wedding dress shopping to go and do (squeak to good friends getting married!) so I couldn’t indulge then. But we asked what was going on and made a note to go back today to sample their #basqueinsummer cuisine as they were only around for the bank holiday weekend. I am so glad we did!
It had been chucking it down about half an hour before we ventured out for lunch and so I wondered how they would be doing and hoping business was still booming for them. And it was! Hooray! They had some great music on to create more of an atmosphere for their customers (it worked, I had a jig) and some seats and tables laid out on the grass.
The Free Ranger – London Philly Cheesesteak – £6 – London and Chelmsford
Hark at thee, hungry readers and food porn enthusiasts. I am here to tell you a cheesy meaty tale, from the valleys (or high street) of Chelmsford, Essex. Our story began one uneventful Friday lunchtime when a lost soul was wandering through this pity-city – I say this because the Queen deemed Chelmsford a city but let’s be real here…this is a place for realness. Anyway, I digress! I am here to tell you about some joy that was brought to me on a day of boredom and darkness.
Pate Moi? Don’t mind if I do!
Now it’s not often you’ll see a meat lover like me get excited about mushrooms. Don’t get me wrong, I like mushrooms as much as the next person – more than many in fact – but I do always pity the vegetarian whose veggie option is a giant mushroom in place of what should be a big hunk of meat. What do mushroom hating veggies even eat?! Continue reading
