I’m quite keen on rockabilly/vintage events, which you may have picked up from some of the style and events posts so far under the Fork My Life section of this site, so I was excited to see a new monthly event pop onto the scene in the form of The 2 Rs thanks to the Freddies of Pinewood team.

Upcoming: Magic Roundabout Winter Launch
The oh so East London drinking and dining den Magic Roundabout, which resides in the middle of Old Street roundabout is coming back for Winter!
They’ve tented it, heated it, and revamped it with a new old school theme. The new venue will take you back through the decades, with areas decked out in homage to the 60s, 70s, 80s and (our personal favourite) the 90s. The new themed areas include a Woodstock with some serious flower power and tribute to the late, great (in some opinions) Hugh Heffner with a super sexy 1970s Playboy lounge, complete with sheepskins and log fire. The Main Bar will be an all out 80s disco with futuristic art and palm trees and finally, the VIP Area will take you right back to the early 90s; oh the patterns, oh the Fresh Prince colours! Hopefully Big Willy himself will make an appearance… (ok, maybe not but let a girl dream!)
Koko Kanu’s Frequent Flyers Cocktail Club – London
Welcome to the Koko Kanu Frequent Flyer’s Cocktail Club! Inspired by the era of jet-set travel, this Summer we have Koko Kanu inviting Londoners and travel fans on a delicious journey to 6 wonderous bars throughout July. If you aren’t sure who Koko Kanu are… well, they’re the UK’s leading white rum blended with coconut flavour (a nice 37.5%) so really you should know who these guys are. Nip down to your local supermarket and peruse their wares.
So what is this Frequent Flyer’s Cocktail Club? What does it all mean? Well keep on reading and you’ll find out!
Barsmith Tiki Pop Up – Farringdon, London
Good day to you all! Some of you may know that I’m a fan of 50s style, including Tiki fashion, so when I saw there was an exciting looking Tiki pop up at Barsmith in Farringdon it set my joy alarm off!
So what is it? Well Barsmith have decked out their establishment as a Tiki bar, with carved Tiki heads imported from the South Pacific, a bamboo bar set up, tropical flowers all over the place and a new Tiki styled menu. They’ve brought in some cocktails such as the classic Zombie and Navy Grog to name a couple to sip on while admiring the authentic décor.
Last Days of Shoreditch – Shoreditch, London
Following our preview post last month, here we have it, the return of the East London tropical beach pop up…the Last Days of Shoreditch. I’m unsure where the name came from exactly but positioned on the crevis of Great Eastern Street and Old Street, you’ll find a beach hideaway nestled and ready for you to pull up a deckchair.
We were lucky enough to go to the launch of FDoS and although there was a little delay on allowing entry we were glad to get to the bar and have a drink as the sun was shining and we were all excited to see what was available this season.
Upcoming: The Last Days of Shoreditch Returns!
This week we see Last Days of Shoreditch Riviera arrive back in the heart of East London, in the crevis where Old Street and Great Eastern Street meet, with a sensational summer programme of beats, bars and beach life. If you feel so inclined, you can relax to the sounds of XOYO DJs who will take the Saturday daytime residency each week, expect cocktails, an urban beach, craft beer bars alongside mouthwatering street food as well as a pop up restaurant and label takeovers.
Jackson & Rye – American food meets City dining – Bank, London
Just before Christmas we popped along to the new Jackson & Rye restaurant in the City. An American food joint certainly makes a change from the plethora of steak houses and gastro pubs in the area, and being only a few streets away from the office we were keen to check out this new addition to the local food scene.
Evans & Peel vs Old Forester Bourbon
December! That means Christmas! It also means Repeal Day – dost ye know what that is? No? Well let me tell you with the help of Evans & Peel and Old Forester bourbon who have teamed up to bring you a bespoke cocktail – The Executioner! *trembles in boots*
So, Repeal Day is the day Prohibition ended in the United States in 1933 and therefore, being a speakeasy and all, Evans & Peel are the perfect partner to snuggle up to. This literal underground bar is nestled unassumingly in a street less than 10 minutes from Earl’s Court tube and I couldn’t wait to see what it was all about!
*New Opening* All Bar One – Leicester Square
Cheers! We are welcoming a new All Bar One location to London’s Leicester Square. This month All Bar One launched a rather large new bar on the South West corner of Leicester Square itself, super close to Piccadilly Circus tube, and naturally Leicester Square station. And what does it have to offer us?
Crab Tavern – Broadgate Circle
We first came across Crab Tavern at the Slider Decider at Broadgate Circle back in September. They served up a delicate lobster slider in a delightful pink bun which we were big fans of, so we were looking forward to seeing what else this restaurant had to offer.
